Bridges to Self-Sufficiency
Bridges
to Self-Sufficiency was established in 1997 to help women move from homelessness to independent living. In 2006-2007, 22 women and 21 children participated in the program. Bridges to Self-Sufficiency provides supportive, transitional living. Women must be employed, pay 30% of their income for rent and demonstrate a strong desire to become independent. Case management includes weekly home visits and monthly life-skills training, so that at the end of the two-year program they have the knowledge and skills to live independent lives and be contributing members of the community.
