Our Mission
Since our beginning in 1985, we’ve been committed to meeting needs in our community, especially among the most vulnerable. Albuquerque is the epicenter of homelessness in Central New Mexico, and many of the families affected by this are headed by single women. For three-plus decades, Barrett House has been a shelter and a life support for these women and children.
Our mission is to end the experience of homelessness for women and children in our community by providing shelter, housing and supportive services. The women and children who seek shelter with us do so because of complicated problems - substance abuse, generations of family dysfunction, and many more. We understand that these issues won’t be solved quickly or easily. This is why we have a team and facilities dedicated to being in it with the women for as long as it takes.
